Visiting a local cemetery during Dia de los muertos (Day of the Dead) celebrations I was struck by the incredible diversity and beauty of row upon row of wall niches. Containing everything loved ones might associate with their dearly departed, including brightly coloured flowers, pieces of text, bottles, favourite foods and photographs, these niches presented a joyous display of love and remembrance. Huge crowds of people, young and old, moved through the grounds, playing music, making decorations and sharing food and drink. A true celebration of those who are gone having touched the lives of others.
